The Senior Program is designed for cellists, ages 16-24. This intensive three-week session, gives students the opportunity to gain performance experience and focus closely on major repertoire for the cello.
Cellists can include sonatas, concerti, concert pieces and works for solo cello throughout all three weeks. Technique classes, orchestral audition advice and coaching, private lessons, master classes, ensemble work, and injury prevention are all a very important part of our curriculum and programming.
ICI offers you the unique opportunity to interact and bond with your peers, we look for students that are engaged and willing to work hard as well as have fun. Our camp fills a niche which allows you time and space to specifically focus on improving your technique and performing skills. Private Lessons: Held throughout the morning, each student will have two lessons per week and study with a variety of faculty members. Students not in a lesson would be either practicing or rehearsing with one of our professional pianists.
Master Classes: Students will perform in and observe a variety of public master classes given by ICI faculty every afternoon throughout the camp.
Alexander Technique Class (or similar injury-prevention session): Students learn valuable information about playing with less tension and preventing injuries.
Orchestral Audition Training: This year we are offering our senior students the opportunity to prepare orchestral excerpts and are offering orchestral training classes with Mark Kosower, principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra, Anthony Ross, and Silver Ainomäe principal and associate principal cellists of the Minnesota orchestra. Please note on your application if you are interested in participating in this part of the program.
Cello Ensembles: Ensemble playing is an important part of our curriculum. The Senior chamber recital is always a highlight for students and audience members alike.
Student Recital Series: Students will perform solo and chamber works on these concerts. The recitals are open to the public and presented every Thursday evening on the campus of St. Olaf College.
Faculty Recital Series: Every summer we feature three guest artists to perform on our CELLOici Series. This is a chance for students, visiting parents, and local cello enthusiasts to hear outstanding cello performances. Our venue is the Art Museum at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church in downtown Minneapolis, it has a warm and engaging atmosphere and we have large audiences. We choose an outstanding student from the camp to perform as a prelude to each concert. This gives us a chance to show our audiences what we do at ICI. This year we are pleased to present Astrid Schween, cellist of the Juilliard String Quartet. Mark Kosower, principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra and prize winning young cellist Brannon Cho.
Tuition includes all-you-can eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner plus daily treats at teatime, master classes, lectures, private instruction, pianist fees, social events, and transportation to and from offsite concerts and events. (ICI will help with transportation logistics to and from the airport, but students will be responsible for those travel costs.)
