Brannon Cho, Prizewinner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition

Brannon Cho was born in the USA in 1994, and began playing the cello at age 7 with Marnie Kaller. In 2006, he began attending the Meadowmount School of Music, where he met Professor Hans Jørgen Jensen. Cho’s notable prizes include sixth prize at the 2017 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium, second Prize at the 2015 Naumburg International Cello Competition, first prize at the 2015 Minnesota Orchestra Young Artists Competition, third Prize at the 2013 Cassadó International Cello Competition, first Prize at the 2012 Johansen International Cello Competition, first prize at the 2015 Mondavi Center Founders Competition, first prize at the 2015 Skokie Valley Symphony Young Artists Competition, the Silver Medal at the 2012 Stulberg International Competition, the Silver Medal from the National Young Arts Foundation in 2013, and the Grand Prize at the 2010 ASTA National Solo Competition.

An avid chamber musician, Cho has performed with Christian Tetzlaff, Gidon Kremer, Joshua Bell, and Philip Setzer, among others. Cho has also attended the Heifetz Institute, Verbier Festival Academy, the Gstaad Festival Academy, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Encounters. Currently he is attending the prestigious Artist Diploma program at the New England Conservatory, where he studies with Laurence Lesser. He plays a rare cello made by Antonio Casini in 1668 in Modena, Italy.

 

 

 

 

 

Hailed by the Washington Post for his “poised and imaginative playing,” pianist Victor Santiago Asuncion is recognized as a pianist of innate musical sensitivity, fiery temperament, and superb technique. As a recitalist and concerto soloist, he has appeared in major concert halls throughout the world. A chamber music enthusiast, he has performed with artists such as Lynn Harrell, Zuill Bailey, Andres Diaz, Antonio Meneses, Cho-Liang Lin, James Dunham, Ronald Leonard, Susanne Mentzer, H.K. Gruber, John O’Connor, Marc Neikrug, Liang Wang, Ensemble Sao Paolo, and the Vega and Emerson String quartets at venues that include the Phillips Collection, the Corcoran Gallery, 92nd Street Y, Benaroya, Merkin, Spivey and Shriver Concert Halls, and the Santa Fe, Aspen, Madison, Virtuosi, Pera, and Amelia Island Music Festivals. He was on the chamber music faculty of the Aspen Music Festival and School, as well as the Garth Newel Summer Music Festival. He was also the pianist for the Garth Newel Piano Quartet for three seasons. In addition to his active performing career, Mr. Asuncion is sought after as a piano, vocal, and chamber music coach. He is currently an associate professor of piano, and Director of Collaborative Arts Studies at the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis.
