ICI and the Arianna String Quartet

Since its foundation 15 years ago, the International Cello Institute has established bonds with organizations and musicians worldwide. One of ICI’s longest-standing relationships is with the Arianna String Quartet, who serve on the faculty at the University of Missouri-St. Louis as professors of violin, viola, and cello.

Cellist Kurt Baldwin has been part of the ICI faculty since its beginnings. Throughout the years, the Arianna String Quartet has taught, collaborated and coached classes at several of ICI’s summer programs.

The International Cello Institute is thrilled to partner with the Arianna String Quartet and present this wonderful concert to benefit ICI’s scholarship fund.

ABOUT THE ARIANNA STRING QUARTET

“Mastery of the scores and absolute unity of interpretive purpose…”

- Northwest BachFest Concert Series

The modern-instrument Arianna Quartet, in residence at the University of Missouri St. Louis since 2000, completed their Beethoven cycle with the Late Quartets (Centaur). They roll out the music comprehensively with wisdom and an embracing combination of energy, intensity, emotional range, and expression. They handle the big forte outbursts in the Grosse Fugue with confidence and unleash them with power—no need for an orchestra.”

- Strings Magazine

Hailed for their outstanding musicianship, the Arianna String Quartet has established itself as one of America's finest chamber ensembles. Their performances have been praised for “tonal warmth, fastidious balance and expressive vitality” (Chicago Tribune) and “emotional commitment and fluent virtuosity,” (Pretoria News, South Africa). Formed in 1992, the ASQ garnered national attention by winning the Grand Prize in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, First Prize in both the Coleman and Carmel Chamber Music Competitions, and were Laureates in the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition.
